We all know that when it comes to keeping our skin safe, especially in the harsh UV rays of the New Zealand sun, sunscreen is essential. But did you know that your eyes also need protecting too?
Some of the long term effects sun can have on the eyes if they’re not protected adequately are:
- Cataracts: a clouding of the eye’s lens that can blur vision. An estimated 20% of cases are caused by extended UV exposure.
- Macular degeneration, resulting from damage to the retina that destroys central vision. This can lead to blindness.
- Pterygium: a tissue growth over the white part of the surface of the eye that can alter the curve of the eyeball, causing distorted vision (astigmatism).
So – do yourself a favour and invest in some good sunnies! My latest obsession are my new Prada Cinema sunglasses from SmartBuyGlasses. Super quick shipping and they stock loads of the major brands for cheaper. How cute are these? I’m in love!
